This collectible 1920’s rotary electric sewing machine represents a time in history when electric innovation made life easier in households across America. Complete with original sewing machine, electrical hardware, casters, sewing needles, wood table, cast iron base with a forged “WHITE S.M. Co” logo, and coffin top with the “White” name painted on. This piece has a high level of detail and still works mechanically. An amazing conversation started when staged in your living area or dining room.

Dimensions: 32” W x 16-1/2” D x 40” T
Serial number: 728710

Thomas White began producing sewing machines in 1858 in Templeton, Mass. The company moved to Cleveland in 1866 and White Sewing Machine Co. was incorporated in 1876. The White Family Rotary model was introduced in the late 1890s. It was the company's most popular machine and was made until the 1950s. White also made sewing machines for other companies, including Sears Roebuck. The company name became White Sewing Machine Corp. in 1926. Business declined in the 1950s as foreign-made machines became available in the United States.

CONDITION: This piece has been used and considered in fair condition. There are chips and cracks along the original wooden surface of both the table and coffin top. There is some degree of wear from age and storage. One ring pull is missing from one of the wooden drawers. Some of the decorative gold paint on the sewing machine is faded and the bobbin winder tension mechanism is missing on the sewing machine. Some rust exists on the cast iron base. Original electrical hardware has not been tested or used.

ANTIQUE: When buying or selling an item labeled "ANTIQUE", trade standards suggest that the term should be reserved only for items greater than 100 years old. Outside of the practice of buying and selling items, however, use of the word "ANTIQUE" can be understood to attach no specific age to an item. However, some hold to an 80 year marker. The 80 year marker considers the heritage of the item in that it reflects the span of two generations, with one generation traditionally considered to be the length of 40 years.
